Description of Services: At Michigan Brain Health, Dr. Karl R.O.S. Johnson, DC, BCN focuses on helping patients with chronic health challenges who are not responding to traditional medical treatments. The help provided at Michigan Brain Health has three main goals; 1) to optimize healthy brainwave activity, 2) to address underlying nutritional imbalances, 3) to strengthen weak brain lobe function. Dr. Johnson is a certified graduate of the American Functional Neurology Institute, after hundreds of hours of postgraduate study in neurology. He is board certified in neurofeedback (BCIA BCN) and is a fellow of the Institute for Human Individuality (FIFHI). Dr. Johnson continues to study and research on a weekly basis. He is known as the doctor who digs deeper to find root causes to health challenges. Dr. Johnson and he has specialized training in heart rate variability biofeedback and the Interactive Metronome and IM Home systems. Michigan Brain Health seeks to optimize brain function for improved performance in daily life via brain-wave training, modulation of gut-mediated inflammation via nutritional interventions and teaching people how to reduce their fight or flight nervous system response (CNS arousal dysregulations) with heart rate variability biofeedback. One of the modalities Dr. Johnson employs to help optimize brain function is neurofeedback. Basic learning theory is the backbone of EEG biofeedback, which is more well known as neurofeedback. Neurofeedback trains the brain to enhance self-regulation and helps the body to find more efficient pathways so the body is better able to manage and heal itself. We do not 'treat' conditions with neurofeedback but assist the nervous system to make adjustments to improve function. As such, neurofeedback has been shown to be profoundly helpful for improving, remediating, or alleviating, a wide spectrum of conditions. I limit my use of neurofeedback and to assist those already diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, chronic pain, headaches (including migraines), anxiety as it relates to pain and altered muscle tension, depression as it relates to pain and altered muscle tension. Combined with nutritional support for improved body function, neurofeedback may also help with mild traumatic brain injury and the effects of a concussion. EEG neurofeedback (neurofeedback) is not a medical procedure. It is designed to help improve your brain state through coaching and biofeedback. It cannot be used to diagnose or treat any mental/neurological disorder. As a Doctor of Chiropractic, Dr. Johnson uses neurofeedback and biofeedback as ancillary/adjunctive/supportive therapies in my office. Brainwave training is a matter of increasing the person's competence sequentially and incrementally. Consult your medical doctor or licensed mental health care provider regarding the diagnosis or treatment of mental or neurological disorders.
