In this presentation, Dr. Anu Kotay will describe how biofeedback can be provided effectively to groups of patients with diverse chronic pain conditions.
By the end of this presentation, the audience members can expect to:
(1) describe current level of evidence to support the use of group biofeedback to help patients manage chronic pain,
(2) understand common challenges/ strategies to group format and chronic pain populations, and
(3) articulate key clinical interventions (e.g. pacing, mindfulness, self-regulation) which may be provided as part of group biofeedback treatment.
Dr. Kotay will highlight clinical cases that exemplify real-life complications and successes of group biofeedback. Dr. Kotay is a clinical health psychologist licensed in NY and CA and is currently working as Biofeedback Manager at Kaiser San Francisco's Chronic Pain Management Center. She is BCIA board certified in biofeedback and received her MS and PhD from California School of Professional Psychology under Dr. Dick Gevirtz and completed her APA-approved internship and post-doctoral training under Dr. Paul Lehrer at what is now Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. She is hopeful that this topic will raise interest and discussion of different clinical pathways to best serve larger populations using principles of clinical psychophysiology and biofeedback.
